Eucalyptus is a tree of Australian origin of impressive dimensions: it can reach heights of up to 300 meters. Its name comes from the Greek words "eu" and "kalypto" which mean "good" and "covered" and refers to the appearance of the stamens.
Eucalyptus was brought to Europe in the late 18th century, where it was first used for ornamental purposes. Eucalyptus oil has started to be exported since the 19th century, and it was first known as Sidney Mint, due to its mint-like properties.
